Around the city, he built a wall
And declared that Babylon
would never fall.

On his [Gm]throne he drank and [G]ate,
But for Belshazzar it was [D]gettin' [G]late.

balance [Gm]an d found wanting,
[G]His kingdom was divided,
couldn't [D]stand.
He was [G]weighed in the balance

upon the sand.

Well, the people [Gm]feasted
and drank their wine
And praised [G]the false gods of his time.
All holy things [Gm]they scorned
and mocked,
But sud[G]denly all their [D]mocking stopped.
[G]For on [Gm]the wall,
there appeared [G]a hand,
Nothin' else, there was no man.
[Gm]In blood the hand began to w[G]rite,
And Belshazzar couldn't

Well, [Ab]no one around could [G]un derstand
What was written by the
mystic hand.
[Gm]Belshazzar tried, but couldn't find
A man who could give him [G]peace of mind.
But Daniel, the prophet, a [Gm]man of God,
[G]He saw the writing on the
wall in blood.
[Gm]Belshazzar asked him what it said,
And [G]Daniel turned to the [D]wall [G]and read:
"My [Ab]friend, you're [G]weighed [Ab]in the

balance [Gm]an d found wanting,
[G]You[Ab]r kingdom[G] is divi[Ab]ded,
[G]it can't [D]stand.
You're [Ab]weighed in the [Gm]balance
and found want[G]ing,
Your house[D]s are built upon t[G]he sand."
