[G]Once upon a time [C]in a school,
[G]next to the sports hut and the pool,
far from the road into town,
[Eb]was [G]a spooky playground.
[C]Kid[G]s at the school didn't want to play.
In the playground on a sunny day,
the swings moved up [C]and down,
and side [G]to side all on their [C]own.
[G]The big slide was sometimes grimy,
with something [C]green, slippery [G]and slimy.
[D]The carousel[G] spun wit[C]h
a creaking [G]sound,
but no one was pushing it around.
At the school [Bm]was a lonely girl,
[C]with long curly hair, [G]called
Pearl.
The other kids told her she couldn't play with them,
so she [Bm]wouldn't.
[C]Pearl spent her time looking out [G]at the spooky [D]slide and
[G]roundabout and the swings that creaked
and groaned.
Why were they moving on their own?
One [C]afternoon, after [G]lunch break,
[D]Pearl [G]decided to investigate.
[F]While [G]every[Bb]one else [G]played inside,
[C]she walked tow[G]ards the[D] big slide.
[G]It was covered in green slime again.
She went deeper into the playground then.
The swings were now silent and [F]still.
[G]Pearl shivered, like she [C]had a chill.
[G]At the edge of the playground
were some trees.
They were tall, with dark spiky leaves.
Pearl parted their branches
and peered in[C]side.
Boo!
[G]Out of the trees a ghost did glide.
Ah!
[C]Pearl jumped out of her skin.
[G]The little white ghost gave
a ghostly grin.
It flew around her with a twirl and
then back into the trees it whirled.
The shock began to wear off
Pearl.
She wasn't afraid of a ghost that twirled.
Who are you? she called [C]into the trees.
The ghost [F]came back out,
[C]looking pleased.
Who are [G]you? [F]the ghost said to
[Dm]Pearl.
[C]She told it her name, and he [G]did a whirl.
I'm a lonely ghost, the [C]ghost said.
Then [G]it bowed his white [F]little head.
[C]Everyone [G]ig nores me, he did say.
[F]I'm always [C]here, but [G]they won't play
[C]Me too, [G]I'll play with you, said
Pearl
[C]Yippee! [G]the gho[C]st did an excited twirl
[G]Let's play hide and seek, the ghost said
It [C]disappeared in[G]to the air instead
Hey, that's not fair !"
Pearl did shout.
Then she spotted the ghost
on the roundabout.
Found [G]you!
She laughed and went to hide,
right underneath the big slimy slide.
[C]The ghost popped out there with a
BOO!
It giggled and said,
Found you too!
[Bb]The pair[C] were having so much fun that soon
they'd been seen by everyone

The other [C]kids said
Their eyes boggled [D]out
[G]of their heads
The kids came out into the playground
Boo! said the ghost and whirled [Bb]around
It's [G]a friendly ghost!
Pearl told the others
At last, they all played with one another.
