[Verse 1]
[D]How lovely to be a woman,
the way it was well [G]worthwhile
[A]Are [D]you picturing this?
[G]How lovely to wear mas[D]cara
and smile a wo[Asus4]man's smi[D]le
I learned a lot that year
How lovely to have a [F#m]figure
that's [G]round instead of [Bm]flat
Whenever [G]you [Bb]hear boys [D]whistle,
you're [Em]what they're [A]whistling at
[D]It's won[F]derful to fee[C]l
the [F]way a woman [Bb]feels
It gives you [A]such a [D]glow
just to [E]know [A]you're [F#m]wearing
[F#dim]lip stick[B] and heels[E][Bb]
[A]How [Asus4]lovely to[D] be a woman
and change from boys to [Eb]men
To go [Em]to a fancy n[C]ightclub
and [Em]stay [A]out af[F#m]ter ten
[D]How lov[G]ely to be so gro[Bb]wn up and fre[D]e
Life's [Asus4]lovely when you're
a woman like [D]me
That is a true story.
But like I say, Tommy really
changed my life
because he's the one who talked me in
[D]to moving to New York City.
I had gone to UCLA and I [D]had every intention
at the end of that tour
of coming back to [D]Los Angeles,
trying my luck as an actress in Hollywood,
and it was Tommy who said, no, no,
Sue, Sue, you can't go to LA.
They're never going to
know
what to do with you.
You need to move to New [D]York City,
they're gonna know exactly
what to do with you.
Well, I'm so glad I listened.
I kept my [D]bags packed at
the end of that tour,
and I moved to New York City,
to the upper, upper, upper, upper,
upper, upper west side of Manhattan,
also known as Harlem.
And it was so exciting,
I got my first ever apartment by myself,
and I went to Ikea,
and I bought all sorts of furniture,
and I spent the next nine months
putting it all together
with that ridiculous little tool
they give you in the directions in Swedish.
And then I started pounding the
pavement.
I went to every audition I
possibly could
and it was a thrill.
I was auditioning for Broadway shows.
Like I said before,
I didn't [C]know that was possible.
You could [Am]pack a suitcase
[C]an d actually pursue your dream.
I guess if I had any [D]complaints at
all about that time,
it would be that it was so exciting
but I didn't really know
[C]anybody in New York yet.
so there was nobody there
for me to share my excitement [C]with.
I guess I'm sort of a romantic.
[Am]I was looking for that spe[C]cial someone.
