[Verse 1] [G]I know too well a girl should never ever bare her soul, but my story is a bit too good to keep. It's a very, very simple little story on the whole, with a moral, as ye so, so shall ye reap. [D]It [G]wouldn't make a movie, a novel or a play It wouldn't make a song for singing strings But this little story that happened one day Was just, was just, well, it was just one of those things Just one of those crazy things One of those bells that now and then rings Just one of those things It was just one of those nights Just one of those fabulous flights A trip to the moon on gossamer wings Just one of those things If we'd thought a bit of the end of it When we started painting the town We'd have been aware That our love affair was too hot and not to cool down So goodbye, dear, and amen Here's hoping we meet now and then It was great fun, but it was just one of those You know, I've always said that an ocean liner could be the most romantic place in the world There's something about being miles out at sea that makes you feel a little semi -detached from anything you left back on shore. Anyway, that's the way I was feeling my first night out from New York. Utterly romantic and even adventurous. I didn't have to wait long. He was devastating. Tall, blond, very British. His name was Charles. And I knew that he must have been an earl. or a lord or something. He was very reticent. You know how Englishmen are. They just won't talk about themselves. Anyway, he told me that he had a spot in Blackfriars. Or Haymarket. I forget which, but it was someplace important. And I could just imagine one of those romantic ivy -covered old castles. Well, anyway, it was a luscious voyage. Four divine days. And the last night out, I shall never forget it. Charles may have been reticent, but... Well, anyway, the next morning, we got to Plymouth. And I was looking forward to having Charles show me all the sights of England. But when they lowered the gangplank, two very important looking gentlemen in bowler hats came aboard and they took Charles away with them. I knew it must have been Buckingham Palace or to number 10 Downing Street, someplace important. The captain was in a rage and he said some extremely uncomplimentary things about Charles. But I put him in his place. I told him that Charles was an Earl or a Lord or something. And I told him that he had a spot in Blackfriars, or was it Haymarket? It was someplace important. And also that he had a very old romantic ivy -covered castle. But the captain just laughed at me and he said, it wasn't Blackfriars, it was black market and the Charles's old romantic ivy -covered castle would probably be Dartmoor for the next 20 years. I imagine that. And I always thought I was so psychic. But [G]c 'est la vie, I just say. Goodbye, dear, and amen. Here's hoping we don't meet again Some fun, but there's no damage done I see [G]there's a laugh on me, a souvenir I'll charge up to ex[G]perience joy Oh, all of those things
