[Verse 1] The Gift [G]of the Magi Once upon a time [D]in a little town that was the most Christmassy town around, Brother Jim an[G]d Sister Heather lived there in a tiny house together. Jim and [D]Heather didn't have any [C]gold or coins [G]or paper money to be told. But this [D]was usu[G]ally not a bother, because they both had each other. One Christmas Eve, [C]it snowed an[G]d snowed. [Am]Heather went[D] down the icy road. [G]She wanted to buy Jim a Christmas [Em]gift. [G]Over the shops [D]the snow [G]did drift. [Eb]Heather stared in th[Gm]e bright windo[Eb]w. [C]Holly [G]and candy [Eb]canes all in a row. Beautiful presents were piled up high. Oh, I've got [Ab]no money, she cried. Heather had an idea, [G]quick as a [Ab]flash. [C]Back through the snow she[G] did dash. Upstairs to her bedroom she ran, excited about her special [C]plan. Inside [G]the wardrobe [Em]was her [D]special [Am]dress, [G]all glittery [A]blue an[D]d made to impress. Covered in ribbons, [Em]silver and red. I'll swap [Am]it for Jim's gift, [A]she [Am]said. [G]Heather took her [C]to the dress shop and [G]asked, Mis[C]s Jiggy, can I do a swap? [G]Of course dea[D]r, plu[G]mp Miss Jiggy said. Choose whatever you'd [D]like instead. [F]Heather saw a beautiful watch chain that looped around and around [C]again. [F]It was as gold as butterscotch and [C]Jim had no chain for [F]his watch. Can I have this please?" [C]she said, [F]and swapped the dress for the [Dm]chain instead. [F]She knew Jim's [C]present was [F]the best. What it was, he couldn't have guessed. [C]Jim came home later through the snow. [Am]At home, Heather's cheeks [Dm]were all [G]aglow. [C]Jim, I've got you a present! [Am]she cried. I've got you one too, [Dm]he replied. [G]Have you? [Ab]Heather said [C]surprised. This was a Christmas Eve to be prized. Here [G]it is, Jim said very excited. She opened the parcel so delighted. [Db]A huge, shiny blue bow was inside. Heather stared at it wide -eyed. [G]Jim said, It's for your special [C]dress, sis. Gah! She [Db]said, I didn't expect this. [D]Oh, don't you like it?" said poor Jim. Then she gave his [G]present to him. [D]He ripped the paper wide [G]open and the watch chain [D]sparkled inside. Sud[C]denly, Jim gave a great guffaw. Ha! [Am]He giggled [D]loudly at what he [A]saw. Dearest [D]sis, did you do a swap for this present at Miss Jiggy's shop? Uh, yes, I swapped my dress, she said. Jim laughed more and shook his [G]head. [C]I swapped my watch to get your bow. Now your dress is gone. I didn't [G]know. But you swapped your dress for me, [A]and I swapped my watch, as you see. [Am]It shows how much we care for each other, [D]dearest sis, [G]how we love one another.
