[Verse 1]
[G]Howdy, my name's Soddy,
Soddy Ho.
And you know, I heard all my life
that if you want to be on record,
you got to write songs that touch people.
And I would like to try to touch you
with a song I wrote called A
Testimony of Soddy Ho,
also known as Ain't Nobody
Never Told Me Nothin'.
It goes like this. One day,
my truck run out of gas
on Route 1
and I [C]was thumbing into town
going to [G]get me something when these
[A]three dudes in this big black car
pulled over to the [C]side.
[G]They said, [C]hey [G]boy,
come over here and let's talk.
I now look, if [C]you're going to town,
that's an awful [G]long walk,
[A]but if you don't mind driving,
[D]I'm a little tired,
I'll give [A]you a ride. I [G]said, fine.
He said, well,
if you've got a driving license,
what's your name?
I said, [C]no, I ain't got no license.
Soddy's my name,
[A]but I sure drive to hell, I j[D]ust think.
[G]So I got in the office with me.
We were riding along
and I said, what kind of work y 'all in?
[C]The dude in the back car left,
he just grinned.
[A]Then he looked at
them oth[D]er two dudes
and he said,
[G]Ain't [A]nob[C]ody ever told me nothin'
That they [G]didn't want me to know
[E]Only any[A]body ever told me [D]where to go[G]
Now there [C]ain't nobody
so much as givin' [G]the time of [E]day
They never [A]told me nothin'
so I [D]ain't got nothin' [G]to say[Em][D]
[G]Now folks, you see,
Soddy's fixin' to get
in a heap of trouble
You see, cause when we got to [D]town,
I [G]told them things
They said, well look,
we got a business deal
here at the bank
Why don't you sit out in the
[A]car and watch it, boss
And when we finish, we'll [C]buy you a beer."
I said, fine.
[D]So I sit there pickin' my [G]teeth,
and I seen this gas [D]station
over across the street.
[C]I thought, well, shoot,
[A]while they're in the bank,
I'll just go get [D]some gas from
my truck while [G]I'm here.
So I did.
And I was on the self -service aisle,
pumpin' some gas in [C]the can,
when this great big cop
come up [A]a -screamin' at everybody,
[D]wavin' his hand.
[G]He said, everybody,
stay where you are,
that black vehicle [C]is a stolen car.
Is that yours, boy?
I [A]said, no, officer,
[D]I'm just puttin' gas in this [G]can.

[Verse 2]
There ain't [C]nobody ever
told me nothin'

[Verse 3]
But that they [G]didn't want me [E]to know

[Verse 4]
All [A]anybody ever told [D]me
was where [G]to go

[Verse 5]
Keep telling, buddy! Now [C]there
ain't nobody so much
as give me [G]the time of [E]day

[Verse 6]
They never [A]told me nothin'
so I [D]ain't got nothin' [G]to say[E][G]

[Verse 7]
Yeah, see, Soddy may be
dumb like a box of rocks,
but he knows that police
ain't gonna buy none of this.
See, but before Soddy even
had time to think,
when the burglar alarm
[C]went off over [G]at the bank,
Well, here come them dudes runnin' out
with their arms loaded full of money,
[C]brandishin' guns.
Well, [A]they looked [G]for the car,
and then they looked for me.
Well, they [C]didn't see
neither one [G]of us
where we was [C]supposed to be.
Well, [A]son, you [G]shoulda seen the
look on their face
when they [C]didn't have nowhere to run.
[G]Why, they was a -screamin'.
They was a -hollerin',
jumpin' up and down.
[C]And the money was spillin'
all over on the ground
about [A]the time me
and that officer [D]walked
over there on the [G]scene.
Well, the dude called left,
and he pulled me over to the side,
and he said, Where did [C]you put
the damn car knucklehead?
[A]I didn't look at left and I s[D]aid brother wait
[G]a minute ain't [C]nobody ever
That did[G]n't want me to know
[E]only any[A]body ever told me[D][G]
[C]Nobody so much
[G]The time of [E]day they never [A]told me nothing.
I [D]ain't got nothing to [G]say except hey
I know where [C]you going
when you leave him brother,
and I know well [G]side it's going to
[E]And if [A]I had my brothers, brother,
[D]I'd rather be going[G] without it
than going with you.
[C]How's that for being ignorant?
[G]Oh, huh[E]?
I may [A]be ignorant, lefty,
[D]but I [A]ain't [D]going [G]to jail.
Hey, brother, you over there
with the pickup [C]truck.
Hey, yeah, you going out
to[G]ward High[C]way [G]1?
[E]I need a lift.
I [A]got this gas can.
[D]Yeah, it's heavy.
See, I can[G]'t carry it.
I need a ride, [C]huh?
Well, let me tell you where to stick your [G]pickup truck,
[Em]brother.
And while you're at [A]it,
why don't you accompany [D]that
with that auto[G]matic gear shift?
How do you like that, [C]hello?
Get off my butt and lift [G]it.
Officer, [Em]would you give me a
lift out to the [A]highway?
[D]Yeah, well let me tell you
where to [G]stick that patrol car,
officer.
