I'm on this road [C]and I hear gravel
underneath me and I [G]feel it too
And I don't [D]know where I am,
but I know exactly where I [Em]am
[C]It's dark, It's rea[G]lly dark
And the car is warm [D]but somehow I can feel
how cold the [Em]night is
I don't know where the [C]road leads
but I know exactly [G]where it [D]ends[Em]
You see I [C]keep driving
And all I see for the long[G]est while
is my [D]headlights, for an eterni[Em]ty it seems
[C]And everything is desolate and emp[G]ty
and nothing and hope[D]less[Em]
I'm lost but I [C]know where I'm going
I'm safe, I'm [G]warm, I'm driving
[D]And I see this small lig[Em]ht
A dim one, growing [C]brighter and bigger
and clos[G]er and stronger
[D]And the closer I get the more I see[Em]
I [C]make out a house with light strewn a[G]cross it,
a porch, and [D]cars
Some frosted [Em]windshields
that haven't been touched for [C]hours
[G]I hear a song, and it's faint,
I [D]can't make out the name
but i know every [Em]word
I feel my [C]feet first,
and it's [G]cold and there's crunching,
and its the [D]sound of [Em]driveways
And the wind [C]takes takes my breath with [G]it
Then I walk up to this [D]door and knock,
even though I feel I don't [Em]have to
[C]And I don't know where I am
but I know ex[G]actly where I am
[D]And this crack of light widens
[Em]on this porch underneath me
as this door [C]opens
[G]And this brown haired girl
with the bright[D]est smile
[Em]I don't know who she is
but I know her so [C]well
And behind [G]her
the warmest home I'd ever [D]seen
Its [Em]orange and comfortable, there's [C]fire
and it's bulb [G]lit
[D]She say[Em]s

[Verse 2]
"Where have you [C]been?
I've been waiting for you all [G]night,
we've missed [D]you"
She [Em]says through the kindest smirk
I've seen in [C]so long
Then she tapers [G]off the sentence
with the peaceful [D]sound that a lady makes
[Em]She grabs me on the [C]forearms
and pulls softly into the [G]dining room
[D]And there's people
and they're hap[Em]py and content for one
[C]I don't know who they are
but I know ex[G]actly who they are
And we're all [D]standing
and I'm laughing at a joke I'll never [Em]hear again
I don't know where I [C]am
but I know exactly where I am
[G]And then she tucks her head
between my [D]collar as a friend
[Em]Between my collar and my jaw[C]
and there's no weight at all
[G]And I don't know where I am
