[Verse 1] [D][A][D][G][D] [A][G][A][G] [D][A] [Asus4]We have n[A]othing t[D]o fear,[A][D] but fear [E]it [D]self. [A]As [D]long [A]as [D]our faith doesn't [A]fail,[G][A] we can [F]face [D]any [Bm]storm,[Bb] [Bm]with hand held high [D]and a smile [A]as [E]a shield from [A]the gale. If [D]we truly believe in what we [E]feel,[D] [A]the mom[D]ent our dou[G]bts d[D]isappea[G]r, We can see shining [Abdim]clear, like [A]the sun [D]through a tear, [Bm]we have noth[G]ing to fear,[Asus4] [A]but fea[D]r.[G][D][A] [D] [F]In his[D] first inaugural address in 1933, Franklin Delano Roosevelt told a frightened nation, the only thing we have to fear is fear [A]itself. [E]Our pri[D]mary task is to put people to [F]work. And to that [D]end, more legislation [Eb]was passed within the [D]next 99 days and in any previous [G]Congress. Saint or de[D]mon, radical or humanitarian, [A]Franklin Delano Roo[D]sevelt was not the type of man to arouse any half [A]-hearted feelings. [D]People either revered [A]or hated him. But his [D]New Deal had obviously made more friends than enemies, for in 1936, he was re -elected with a plurality of [Eb]10 million votes. Now, [D]less than two decades after the world had been made safe for democracy, the nightmare of another world conflict loomed in Europe. And Franklin Roosevelt worked tirelessly to build up solidarity among the countries of the Western Hemisphere. Breaking with tradition in 1940, he ran and was elected for a third term. [Eb]And on D[D]ecember 7th, 1941, the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor plunged us into war. Not only the United States, but the whole free world was locked in a violent death struggle. And [Eb]elected for a fourth t[D]erm, FDR was determined that this time, we should not win the war and lose the [Ab]peace. He traveled [D]far and wide to bring the free nations of the world into an alliance. [Eb]The United Nations[D] was born,[Eb] [D]but he did not live to attend its [Eb]first session. [D]On April 12, 1945, Franklin Delano Roosevelt died. And with a war not yet won, Harry S. Truman became our 33rd president. Pledging himself to maintain Roosevelt's policies, he saw us through the war. And with a spunk and fiery spirit that no one had guessed he possessed, Truman faced the problems of a post -war atomic [A]world. And, in [D]1948, Against All Predictions was elected to a second term. Go get em, Harry! You'll show em all! [G]You might [C]best whip your [G]back again[C]st them all! [D]Go get em, Harry[F]! [D]Fight for the rise! And [G]we 'll back you, [D]Harry! [G]with all the na[C]tion's [F]might. And soon, all the nation's [G]might backed up the president's decision [D]to fight against aggression in Korea. Harry S. Truman had taken on a gigantic responsibility, but Franklin D. Roosevelt had bequeathed to him and to all of us an [G]unconquerable weapon, the reaffirmation [D]of faith in our [A]four freedoms, freedom of speech and of wor[D]ship, from want and from fear. [A]If [D]we truly believe in what we feel, [A]the mom[D]ent our doubts disappear. [G]We [D]can[G] see shining clear,[Abdim][D] [Abdim]like the [A]sun thro[D]ugh a tear.[Bm] We have [G]nothing to [Asus4]fear, but[A] fear! [D][G][D]
